(Updated version Sept. 11, 2025) The dual-degree program between NCCU (College of Communication) and University of South Carolina (School of Journalism and Mass Communications) is now open for application.

Three Recommendation Letters (in English, submitted directly through the USC system by the referees)
English Proficiency Test Score (TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, Duolingo) – Required for students from Taiwan
GRE – Not required. Regardless of whether the degree was taught in English or the applicant’s native language is English, submission of GRE is not mandatory.
If an applicant chooses to submit GRE scores as supplemental information for evaluation, the scores must be valid within the last 5 years, with a total score of 300 (Verbal 153, Quantitative 147, Analytical Writing 4.0 or above).

5️ Credit Requirements & Transfer
MMC Master’s Degree: 36 credits (including up to 12 transferable credits from NCCU)
MA Master’s Degree: 32 credits (including up to 12 transferable credits from NCCU)

Typical UofSC Transfer Courses | 1st course: JOUR 701: Research Methods in Mass Communication 2nd course: JOUR 702: Communication Theory(These two courses are the most commonly transferred and have previously been considered equivalent to the research methods and communication theory courses typically taken by NCCU students in their first semester.) 3rd & 4th courses: Typically JOUR 790: Topics in Mass Communication, NCCU graduate-level courses are eligible. Multiple JOUR 790 credits can be applied as long as the topics differ each time. | Students must provide official NCCU transcripts with the courses they wish to transfer; transfer evaluation usually occurs shortly after arrival at UofSC. |
Transfer Requirements | Graduate-level courses, taken within the last 6 years, grade B or above, and must be suitable for inclusion in the UofSC SJMC curriculum. If a course is not related to journalism and mass communication (e.g., English, History, Political Science, Psychology, Marketing), the corresponding UofSC school/department must review whether it can be counted toward the MA or MMC program. For example, marketing management, consumer behavior, or marketing research courses are reviewed by the Darla Moore School of Business. | Language not restricted to English; each course is reviewed individually; approval cannot be guaranteed for all requests. |

6️ Courses & Tuition
Students must register at NCCU and pay the NCCU registration fee (tuition-free for credits)

MA Students: 6-credit thesis course + Comprehensive Exam + Thesis Oral Defense
