2023 International Symposium Explores Technological Change



National Chengchi University, November 21st, 2023 – The annual international symposium, co-organized by National Chengchi University (NCCU), Seoul National University (SNU), and The University of Tokyo (UT), convened on October 27th, 2022, at the esteemed University of Tokyo. Under the theme "Mediating the World in the Digital Age: Politics and Culture of Technological Change," the symposium gathered renowned scholars, including Dr Tsung-Jen Shih, Dr. Mei-Ling Hsu, and Dr. Tammy JihHsuan Lin, Director of IMICS, alongside selected students from various institutions.



During the symposium's first day, participants engaged in presentations, including poster sessions and faculty discussions, emphasising the multifaceted implications of technology. Delving beyond its technical aspects, the discourse encompassed its far-reaching political, social, and cultural dimensions, fostering a holistic understanding of technological evolution.



The second day, they featured a field trip organised by UT to TV Asahi, providing a rare glimpse into the workings of this prominent Japanese television network. Attendees toured the TV Asahi facility and engaged in a stimulating discussion session led by veteran news reporter Mr. Go Yoshida, aided by Ms. Yusi Zhang of TV Asahi. As a significant broadcasting corporation established in 1957, TV Asahi stands among Japan's critical national TV networks, offering unique insights into media and technology landscapes.


The symposium was marked by seamless proceedings, fostering an atmosphere conducive to vibrant interaction among attendees, presenters, and chairpersons. This atmosphere epitomised the symposium's spirit, enabling diverse backgrounds to converge and providing an invaluable platform for knowledge exchange.


The collaboration between IMICS, Seoul National University, and The University of Tokyo has yielded profound connections and meaningful interactions. Strengthening these ties, the institutions envision continued academic collaborations, aspiring to collectively explore new realms of learning and growth.
